SMI Fellows Scheme
About the Scheme
The scheme is designed with the following purposes:
-
- Promote the development and retention of senior researchers in strategic R&D areas important to Maritime Singapore and MPA in local Centres of Excellence (CoEs) / Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) / Research Institutes (RIs);
- Recognise their roles in mentoring junior and aspiring researchers in broader development of the maritime R&D community;
- Expand range of exposure and contributions beyond CoEs / IHLs / RIs by supporting MPA / SMI as technical experts.
Eligibility
-
- Open to both Singaporeans or Permanent Residents; Foreign researcher based locally will be considered on case-to-case basis;
- Employment within local CoE / IHL / RI;
- PhD from a recognised University;
- Research work must be conducted locally;
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant R&D experience post PhD, including senior researchers from SMI R&D Scholarship;
- Proven R&D track record demonstrated by;
a) Management of three or more R&D projects or a minimum $2 million worth of project funding;b) Play a leading role (e.g. Principal Investigator) in at least one of the mentioned projects;
- Demonstrated outstanding contributions and expertise in maritime R&D, particularly in areas of decarbonisation, port management, energy management, emissions management, data analytics, AI, modelling and simulation, marine engineering, etc. Other research areas will be considered on a case-by-case basis;
- Recognised thought leadership and mentorship abilities among peers.

- Curriculum Vitae including list of selected publications (maximum of 2 pages);
- Cover Letter highlighting your suitability for the Scheme based on Review Criteria (no longer than 1 page);
- Copy of educational transcripts.
Review Criteria

- Applicant’s training, aptitude and experience – Academic qualifications, performance, relevant experience, aptitude to benefit from the SMI Fellows Scheme and ability to develop his/her next line of researcher(s) through the scheme;
- Relevance of Research Expertise – The applicant’s expertise must be relevant to the strategic maritime areas for Maritime Singapore and MPA;
- Personal Qualities – Applicant have the qualities to serve as technical expert for MPA / SMI in local/international meetings / conferences / events personified by virtues of integrity, innovation, enterprise excellence and respect.
