SMI Research Spotlight Series: Harbour Craft Decarbonisation
This Research Spotlight video features innovative projects in maritime decarbonisation. From advancing alternative fuels to pioneering vessel electrification, these initiatives are paving the way for new industry standards and a sustainable maritime future.
Biofuels with potential: A research team at the Maritime Energy & Sustainable Development Centre of Excellence (MESD) investigates the potential of biodiesel blends as a sustainable marine fuel. Their research, which combines laboratory testing, sea trials, and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations, demonstrates that B100 biodiesel could provide a reliable and renewable alternative for powering large harbour craft.
Digital Twin Technology and Operational Profiling for Electric Harbour Craft: In partnership with SeaTech Solutions International (SSI) and Yinson GreenTech, reseachers from TCOMS – Technology Centre for Offshore and Marine, Singapore and Singapore Institute of Technology worked together to develop a digital twin of the Hydromover, Singapore’s first fully electric cargo vessel. Their research enables critical insights into the vessel’s performance in varied weather conditions and provides a pathway to optimise future electric vessel designs.
Watch the video to see how research can create a cleaner, greener and more sustainable maritime industry.
